Rowley, Richard R. SLINGERLANDS Richard R. Rowley, 84, died at Beverwyck Sunday, October 3, 2010. He was born in Cohoes, N.Y., the son of Richard J. and Olive Schermer horn Rowley. He grew up in Bough Corners, N.Y. He was a graduate of Cohoes High School, where he was captain of the football, baseball and hockey teams. He volunteered for the service in 1943 at the age of 17. In the Navy he was selected for VIS Officer Training Program. He attended Dartmouth and graduated from Brown University where he was on the Varsity Football Team. Richard returned from Service and worked for GE Upstate NY and attended Albany Law School under the GI Bill. He reactivated for service in the Korean Conflict in the Marine Corps and retired as a captain in the Corps. He then met and married Elaine Clute in 1951 and returned to this area in 1952. He practiced law and was a founding partner in the firm of Sneeringer and Rowley and then Rowley, Forrest and O'Donnell, specializing in Public Sector Labor Law. Richard practiced law for over 50 years and was active until 2010. He was recognized by The Best Lawyers of America for 20 consecutive years. He was a member of numerous organizations, The Schuyler Meadows Country Club, the St. Andrews Society and a member of the Loudonville Community Church. His passions were law and family, above all he loved vacationing with his family at Lake George. He was predeceased by is wife, Elaine and daughter-in-law, Jamie M. Rowley. He is survived by his children, Diane Rowley, Anchorage, Ky., David (Pamela Paley) Rowley and Richard ( Katherine Montague) Rowley, Castleton, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, Nathaniel, Rebecca and Kimberly Toop, Richard, Margaret, Helen, Christine, David, Anne, Olivia and Isabelle Rowley. Funeral service will be Friday 10 a.m., October 8, 2010 at the Loudonville Community Church, 374 Loudon Road, Loudonville. Relatives and friends are also invited to call at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Avenue, Albany Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie, N.Y. The family request donations to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
