Before there was The Last of the Mohicans
there was Cooper Erving & Savage.

James Fenimore Cooper, the grandson of the famed author of The Last of the Mohicans, and his father before him, Paul Fenimore Cooper, are patriarchs of this law firm which traces its lineage as far back as 1785. A lot has changed in those 200 plus years, but one thing hasn’t, and that’s our emphasis on providing skilled, forward-thinking legal service to businesses and individuals in the Capital Region.

Historical records indicate we may be the second oldest law firm in the country. We embrace our lineage and proudly share our story.

If you live in Upstate New York, your history is our history. A great many of the formative historical events of this area, and the nation, are linked to the history of Cooper Erving and Savage LLP, which traces its origin back to 1785.
